QuakeCon, one of the most prestigious Quake Live events in the world, has commenced from August 12th - 15th. As you might have seen or expected, Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone was there, attending in both the duel and CTF tournament.
To start of with the duel tournament, Stermy was placed in the upper part of the winners bracket. It contained 32 of the world's elite gamers, hailing from all over the world. In the first round, Alessandro was rewarded a free win due to his high seed, but after that the action kicked off. First off he had to face sparks, but the Canadian proved to be little trouble for Stermy, as he cruised through to the next round with 2:0 overall.
Up next however, the first real challenge awaited, DaHanG. The American number two player had already easily disposed whaz in the second round, after winning a BYE in the first. Again, Stermy won the match with 2:0.
Then the semi finals followed. SK Gaming's rapha had been playing strong so far, beating Flysher and dkt. But Stermy had already proven to be strong against the American, being one of the first in a while to beat him, this happened at ESWC. But this was a new tournament, so history did not matter. The first map was dm13, and Alessandro took it with the comfortable of 11:8. The next map was t7 and this was again rather easily won by Stermy, 7:4.
The victory over rapha brought Alessandro into the upper bracket final of QuakeCon. Here he would face arguably the current best Quaker of the world: Cypher. The Belarusian superstar had been on a role, defeating top favorites such as Spart1e and strenx without much trouble. But now he had to face Stermy.
Unfortunately enough, Stermy did not pull the longest straw and thus could not stop Cypher's incredible run. The first map, t7, was easily won by Cypher, with 11:2. However, Stermy proved to be no push over, beating Cypher with 14:3 on ztn. The final map, Aerowalk, had to decide it all; who would enter the final? As mentioned before, Cypher pulled the longest straw and won the final map with 13:7, pushing Alessandro down into the lower bracket.
In the lower bracket final Stermy had to face Cooller to secure a spot in the Grand Final versus Cypher. The Russian had fought his way through the lower bracket, defeating players such as strenx, rapha and Spart1e. In the match between the Italian and the Russian, Stermy started off strong. He took Aerowalk quite comfortably with 16:7. But in the end this was not enough. Cooller won the other two maps, dm13 and t7, with 17:4 and 4:2 respectively.
This was not the only silverware Alessandro won though, as he also participated in the CTF tournament with Team FnaticMSI. The Italian and the other Europeans were on a roll, beating Trill and Loaded to get to the Grand Final. Here they met Evil Geniuses, the team who knocked out FnaticMSI last year. Unfortunately enough for the Europeans, history repeated. Evil Geniuses won the match with 2:1 overall, placing Stermy's FnaticMSI on a second place.
Overall Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone showed a strong performance, grabbing silver and bronze. He has also uploaded some "goodies" for his fans. His latest config (here) and the QuakeCon demo's (here) are now available in the download section!

Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone in cooperation with Solaris Productions is proud to present the trailer of a documentary about Alessandro's life as professional gamer, named "Stermy: Life on a Professional Gamer".
The trailer shows some memorable moments (and some to forget) about Stermy traveling around the globe to attend professional gaming events. To check out the 19 minute trailer, head over to this page or check the video below!
Matteo Bettera, Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone his loyal cameraman and friend, has shot a video showing the last 15 seconds of Stermy playing fazz at the Dreamhack Summer 2010 groupstage match between the two. It was an important match to determine who would make it to the playoffs and who wouldn't.
The commentating is by James "2GD" Harding.

Stermy got interviewed recently by Fragster.de:
"Why did you decide to become an eSports player?
stermy: I didn't really decide to become a professional gamer. I loved gaming since the start and I found it awesome that you could compete at such a high level against other players around the world. Becoming a real professional gamer, back in 2001/2002 was just a dream for everybody and people that could really live out of gaming were a few. So I personally played and kept playing because I loved gaming and the competition, I wanted to be one of the best. The opportunities to be sponsored, to travel, compete, work with companies just came to me along with time. I'm grateful for that, I feel lucky for having this chance. When that time arrived, then I seriously started thinking that maybe I could become a professional gamer."

Expectations were high before the ESL Extreme Masters World Finals, but the results were not there. Alessandro "stermy" Avallone didn't get passed his group stage, so straight after the event I did an interview with him to ask him what went wrong. Unfortunately due to circumstances it could not get released sooner, but here it is.

Alessandro "stermy" Avallone has won the ESL GameOn Italy Finals and has now placed for the European Finals.
In the Italian Finals, he has managed to win every single match without dropping one map. His first two games started off with default wins, but after that the action kicked off. Alessandro managed to beat spartano in the upperbracket final without any problems, and then did the same in the grand final. You can find the bracket and results right here.
Now he has qualified for the European Finals. Here he will meet some of the best players, who are all looking to represent their country in the best possible manner. There will be two groups of five players. Of each group the top two will go into the playoffs, which are single elimination, with a best-of-five map system.
Stermy is placed in Group A, alongside fox (Sweden), Av3k (Poland), GaRpY (United Kingdom) and dunpeal (Turkey).

The best of the best attended the ESL Extreme Masters European Championship Finals at Bruhl, Germany last weekend to qualify for a spot in the World Finals. Of course, Alessandro "stermy" Avallone was in attendance as he came first in the online qualifier.
Over the course of the weekend, many exciting matches took place and Alessandro was placed in the toughest group, which meant some amazing matches. He had to face Swedish legend and his former FPO team mate, fox as well as the second-place finisher at the GamesCom tournament, Noctis. The fourth person in his group was Belgian LowLandLions player, dem0n, who was looking to cause upsets.
In the end, stermy won all his matches and had only dropped one map versus fox. This meant he was through to the play-offs and thus he had a top eight place at least, while the top six placed for the World Finals. Alessandro had to face the young and talented strenx and eventually this match was not to be won by stermy and was knocked out of the tournament, only leaving him to fight for a top five spot maximum.
He first had to face calipt and easily won the match with three to zero in maps. Mission accomplished, top six was reached and thus a ticket to the World Finals was secured. He now had to face fox for the match for fifth place. Unfortunately enough, Alessandro was all out of energy and lost the match with two maps to three and placed sixth.
In the end, this sixth place was enough to qualify for the real deal and win 350$ pocket money! See you at CeBIT for the ESL Extreme Masters World Finals from the 2nd till the 6th of March.
